Pets and fine rugs can live together. When accidents happen, we use a decontamination bath and a full hand wash to treat pet urine odors and stains in Persian, Oriental, wool, and other area rugs.

Why it matters

Pet urine goes deeper than the surface.

Urine soaks through the pile into the rug’s foundation and the pad underneath. Spot cleaning the surface often leaves the source behind, so the odor returns, especially on warm or humid days.

Left untreated, urine can also cause discoloration and weaken fibers over time. The sooner a rug is treated, the better the result usually is.

How we treat it
  1. Inspection & estimate. We check the affected areas, the fibers, and the dyes, and tell you what to expect before any work begins.
  2. Decontamination bath. A special treatment neutralizes odors and contamination from urine while protecting your rug’s natural fibers.
  3. Full hand wash & rinse. The whole rug is washed, not just the spot, and rinsed until the water runs clean and clear.
  4. Careful drying. Dried in fresh air and sunshine or in our controlled drying room, depending on the rug.
  5. Color correction & repair, if needed. Our master weavers can correct discoloration and repair fibers damaged by pet urine (additional fee).

Long-standing urine damage, such as color change or weakened fibers, can’t always be fully reversed. We’ll tell you honestly what to expect for your rug.

What to do until we pick it up

  1. Blot, don’t rub. Press clean white towels into the spot to soak up as much as you can. Rubbing spreads it and can damage the pile.
  2. Skip harsh chemicals and steam. Household cleaners can make dyes run, and heat can set urine stains and odors.
  3. Lift the rug off the floor if you can, so the back and the pad can dry.
  4. Call us at (949) 690-4250. We’ll arrange a free pickup.
Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can you completely remove pet urine odor?

Our decontamination bath and full wash are designed to neutralize urine odors at the source. Results depend on how long the urine was there and how much there was, and we’ll tell you honestly what to expect after inspecting the rug.

Will the stain come out?

Many stains improve a great deal with washing. Older urine can change the color of the dyes, and in those cases color correction or repair may be needed. We’ll explain the options and give you an estimate.

Does a rug pad need replacing after a pet accident?

Often a pad that has absorbed urine will keep holding the odor. We offer Ulti-Mat rug pads that protect your rug and floor and keep it from slipping. Call for a free quote.
